R. B.
Mize Home
This handsome picturesque home of Mr. & Mrs. R. B.
Mize is located at the corner of Viers and Walnut
Streets. Mr. Mize built his home on a historic
parcel of land that had once been a part of Black
Lick Farm, an early Shaker outpost. His neighbors
were Mr. & Mrs. Curry Hall, founders of the Shaker
Museum. Mr. Mize was the last Station Master of
the L & N Railroad in Auburn. Dennis Mize, a
grandson, has written a most informative book on
the L & N Memphis Line, including information on
R. B. Mize.
See Places Page #1.
It was Mr. Mize's skill that kept the rail
commerce of Auburn flowing faultlessly for many
years. When the Auburn Class of 1956 planned
its senior class trip to Washington, D.C. Mr. Mize
worked out all the details for the train trip, and
all went well including their having their own
special coach. He was a good friend to all
the kids in town who were interested in the
telegraph and railroads in general.
