Irene Neal House
157 N. Lincoln Street
|
| |
This
house is known by other names but for many years
it was the home of Irene Neal and her business
partner, Cola Turner. This lovely home was built
in the last years of the 1890's. It is unique
for its intact two story front piazza. The
details of the piazza are right from Key West by
way of the Bahamas Islands. It is the only
example of this style of architecture in Auburn,
vary rare indeed. Those who remember being a
guest here will not forget how magnificently
furnished it was. The original architecture is a
stand-out as it hasn't been defaced by some
inappropriate form of siding.
Miss Irene, as she was known to all, had a first
class dry goods store on the Auburn Square.
Though small by today's standards, her store had
dry goods for the entire family.
If anyone has a
photograph of Miss Irene's store, please e-mail it
to the
Auburn Webmaster
for presentation on this web site.
